Have Superintendent Gill and the District 186 board begun to consider adding learning time to next year, either through extending the length of the school day or extending the school year?
Given that there is no contact summer between coaches and athletes, is IHSA considering fall sports modified with limited spectators?
Hats off to all of the educators and leaders in our school districts for making things happen for kids during this pandemic
Kudos for the meal distribution Jennifer!
Harry, Thank you for your question. Although I cannot answer this question about learning time, as we will need to follow guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education, I can say that we know we will focus on adding more accountability and engagement of students in the process. During the initial phase we operated under Act of God days, and then we operated under Remote Learning that focused on supporting students, feeding students, and less on academic accountability in which we were used to operating.
IHSA and IEAS that govern our athletic programs are providing guidance for athletics. I think they are willing and ready to provide athletic activities if it is allowed under the reopening guidelines. They held off as late as possible to make sure they made the right decision about spring athletics, and I feel they will do the same for fall.

Would the university see the benefit of reimagining what it needed to obtain certain degrees? I am a beneficiary of a 4 year dual degree program and a master's degree from UIS. That said, there are many undergraduate required classes that I burned many hours and dollars on that I find challenging to articulate the current benefit of in this point in my career?
We ordered and assigned over 500 Verizon Hotspots and were allowed to pay for this service through the CARES Act. This was done in partnership with the City of Springfield in order to reach the homes of those that needed internet access so that we could provide for all. We did not provide devices for our littlest learners in Pre-K, but we did for Kindergarten. Although technology can be a support for all ages, we know that “Zoom” face to face and direct teaching at the earliest grades is essential.
Ray, What LMS Platform did you use? What was the ease of development for professors and for students that may have been first time on-line learners or educators?
Clary, Robert O
Bob Hansen, if during the next 5 years if more institutions close/merger, what does the future look like for higher ed? Benefits?
